Olmara is famed for Africa’s magnificent big cats and it is a Serengeti wilderness haven for wildlife photographers. The camp is open to the comings and goings of animals giving a stay here a true feel of being at one with the wilderness. Apart from cheetah, the area teems with lion, leopard, serval and other wildlife, providing visitors with an unsurpassed display of predator and prey activity.
Solar power provides lighting and electricity for camp operations that all follow eco-friendly practices. The tented suites merge seamlessly into an ancient grove of acacias and offer vistas of endless grassy plains and the Ngare Nanyuki river valley, dotted with time-weathered rocky outcrops.
The camp is set in a unique expanse of the Serengeti – unspoiled, wild, and remote. With its isolated location, the evenings provide a borderless show of infinite night sky that is dominated by the Milky Way.

At the heart of the camp are the dining and lounge areas set out around a campfire. Wi-Fi connection lets you share your experiences with the outside world in real time.
African art adorns the spacious mess tent and cozy seating areas offer a restful respite from the heat of the day or space to contemplate a deeper understanding of the Serengeti. There is a well-stocked library of wildlife and environmental titles. A waiter is on call to serve you an ice-cold beer or a refreshing Gin and Tonic.
Olmara offers game drives, walking safaris, star-gazing beds, fly-camping, bush meals and hot air balloon rides. Game drives take place twice daily over the savanna of Soit le Motonyi and close to the acacia woodlands that border the rolling plains. Expect to see all the big cats – lion, leopard and cheetah. Other commonly seen species include serval, elephant, giraffe, zebra, warthog and hyena.
Walking safaris in a remote river valley are available for travellers aged 12 years and over. Walks bring you close to all things large and small, hippo pods in river pools, fig encrusted kopjes and the life of the insects.
For a bird’s eye view of this part of the Serengeti, make the 6am start and take to the skies in a hot air balloon. Your ride will last for 1–2 hours and you will descend to a champagne bush breakfast – a special treat.
Olmara camp offers eight tents designed to merge with the eco-environment, all under canvas, with expansive views of the wilderness ahead.
The surroundings may be wild, but you will find stylish comfort in one of eight tented suites, each with a lounge cove, a net-draped king-size bed, writing desk, soft carpets laid over teak floors and an en-suite fitted with a shower and flushing toilet.
Two tents welcome families of up to four in inter-connected suites. The three ‘stargazer’ tents take advantage of the clear African night skies with open-rooftops where you can comfortably recline on large cushions and fall asleep beneath a dazzling ceiling of stars.
Fly camping is an overnight experience that places our guests in the wilderness with a simple camp, allowing us to be immersed in the sounds of the African savannah at night and to appreciate the magnificent African skies. At night we eat our meals and share stories of our African adventures around a campfire.
A back-to-basics camp does not mean a lack of comfort. A few touches of luxury are essential; soft duvets and down pillows, generous and wholesome dining and a serving of cold beer or a glass of wine.
A fly-camp experience will take you deep into the wilderness for a night or two. We conduct most of our activities on foot, allowing us to experience the bush intimately rather than as a passing passenger.
