Walking a mile in another’s shoes will always change one’s perspective. Fly camping, while immersed in African wildlife and wilderness will forever change your life…
This is Fly Camping – the ultimate immersive safari experience.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport under own arrangement.
Once you clear Customs & Immigration, you will be met by your driver, who will be waiting outside the arrival terminal building. You will be escorted to your waiting vehicle and driven to Arusha, arriving at Katambuga House for check-in. The drive usually takes about 1.5 hours, depending on traffic en route.
After checking in at Katambuga House, you can unwind by the pool before enjoying dinner and spending the night.
After breakfast, your driver will collect you from Katambuga House and you will head towards Randilen Wildlife Management Area, approximately an hour’s drive away. On leaving the main road, you’ll traverse a dirt road that winds through Maasai villages. As you enter Randilen, you’ll encounter woodlands and plains where wildlife freely roam.
Expect to arrive at Olkeri Camp roughly 2 hours after departing from Katambuga House. On arrival, you’ll check into your tented suite before enjoying lunch. Following lunch, you can relax in your room before embarking on an afternoon game drive.
Dinner will be served at the camp, where you’ll spend the night.
The day is set for an exciting adventure. After a healthy breakfast, set out to visit the local tribal communities living alongside the resident wildlife. Capture a glimpse of rural African culture and its fascinating ways of life.
Continue on a game drive to explore the region’s wildlife before returning to camp for lunch and a rest. In the afternoon, embark on a safari, heading into a magical African sunset, followed by a special “night spotlight game drive” before returning to camp for dinner and an overnight stay at Olkeri.
After breakfast, you will be transferred via the Great African Rift Valley towards Lake Eyasi. The winding road climbs the escarpment along the northwestern rim, passing through the fertile highlands of the Ngorongoro Escarpment, until you reach Kisima Ngeda Camp for check-in, lunch, and a refreshing splash in the hidden pool.
In the afternoon, after a thorough briefing by your guide, you will climb into your open safari vehicle and head out into the hills that skirt the eastern shores of Lake Eyasi. The road takes you through the ancestral homeland of the Hadza people—one of the world’s most ancient tribes and among the last true hunter-gatherers. Arrive at Kisima Ngeda Camp in time for lunch and a rest. Our camp is set near a beautiful rocky outcrop, surrounded by mountains and hills, with views of Lake Eyasi and the Rift Valley.
In the late afternoon, meet your guide with a small overnight bag for your transfer to Ombako Fly Camp. Upon arrival, you will meet a group of Hadza men and women who will be your guides and escorts on the coming adventure as you explore their homeland.
We will begin with a short exploration of the camp area, walking among the rocks, learning about the poison that coats their arrow tips—made from the desert rose plants—and viewing ancient rock paintings or bathing in spring pools shaded by rocky outcrops. As the sun sets, we will climb the rocks to enjoy a cool drink while taking in the scenery, followed by dinner served around the campfire.
You will spend the night in net tents on comfortable mattresses, warmed by thick duvets and hot water bottles. As darkness descends and you drift off to sleep, stars will fill the sky from horizon to horizon.
Wake up early to enjoy coffee brewed over the fire and a light breakfast. We then head out into the hills, escorted by our guides, to visit a Hadza encampment and join the Hadza in hunting, gathering, and hiking through the surrounding woodlands and hills. No two days are the same; the bounty of the season will dictate our activities, as well as your own interests.
For a short while, we will try to see as our Hadza guides do. Depending on the season, we might forage with the women—digging for roots and tubers, collecting berries, or trapping small animals—or range out with the men through wildlife-rich woodlands, walking between towering baobabs and gnarled acacias in search of birds and other game. The women are equipped with digging sticks, while the men carry longbows tipped with poison arrows and use handmade axes to excavate honey hives. If successful, you’ll be invited to share their meal, which might include wild honey, a small antelope, Francolin, berries, or baobab fruit.
After a morning of learning and adventure, you’ll bid farewell to your Hadza guides and head back to Kisima Ngeda Camp, arriving in time for lunch, a refreshing shower, and a rest.
After lunch, you can either enjoy a well-deserved rest or set out on a short exploration of the camp area, walking among the rocks, through the forest, and the nearby village, ending with a stunning sundowner spot overlooking the beautiful Lake Eyasi. Dinner and overnight at Kisima Ngeda Camp.
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, followed by a transfer to Lake Manyara Airstrip, where you will board a scheduled flight to the Northern Serengeti, arriving at Kogatende Airstrip.
Upon arrival, meet your safari guide and driver, who will accompany you to Esirai Camp (North), with a game drive en route. The camp is set among scattered acacia trees overlooking vast, open savannah plains, with Africa’s majestic landscape stretching across the horizon.
Sundowners and a warm fireplace await you, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at Esirai Camp.
After an early morning wake-up call, enjoy tea, coffee, and breakfast before bidding farewell to Esirai Camp. Set out on a game drive to explore the Northern to Eastern Serengeti route, traveling through the rich Serengeti landscape and its majestic wildlife. Arrive at Olmara Camp in time for lunch.
In the afternoon, begin your “Serengeti adventure” with an open-vehicle game drive, ending at your fly camping site.
The fly camping experience places guests in total wilderness with a simple camp setup, allowing you to be fully immersed in the sounds of the African savannah at night and to marvel at the vast African skies. At night, gather around a campfire to enjoy a meal and share stories of your African adventures.
While this is a back-to-basics camp, it doesn’t lack comfort. A few luxuries are provided with soft duvets and down pillows. Dining is generous and wholesome, accompanied by a cold beer or glass of wine.
This fly camping experience will take you deep into the wilderness for the night. Dinner and overnight at Olmara Fly Camp.
Early-morning wake-up call with tea, coffee, and a light snack, then set out on foot on a safari walk. Nothing compares to exploring the bush on foot, where you can view wildlife from a different perspective and notice the smaller details—such as insects, small mammals, reptiles, and uniquely adapted flora—waiting to be discovered. Larger wildlife can be observed from a distance, adding to the thrill of this active safari experience.
The set path requires a moderate fitness level, and you will be accompanied by a professional game ranger and field guide who will explain the sights and sounds, making this activity one of the highlights of your safari. With a little patience, the East Serengeti walk will be a truly rewarding experience!
At the end of the path, your safari vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Olmara for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a final game drive before returning to camp for a sundowner. Dinner and overnight at Olmara Camp.
On the last day of your safari, enjoy a game drive en route to Seronera Airstrip, making the most of your remaining time in the park. From there, fly from the Serengeti to Arusha Airport.
A transfer vehicle will be waiting at Arusha Airport to take you to Katambuga House for lunch. Afterward, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro Airport to connect with your departure flight.
From sleeping under a star-studded sky in a tree nest or a remote fly camp to floating in a hot air balloon over the vast migrating herds and even possibly coming eye to eye with a Lion, you will return home with stories and memories that will last a lifetime.
