It is all guests’ personal responsibility to consult your local GP or health advisory bureau regarding updated information on vaccination and health requirements prior to your safari.
Packing for a safari can be daunting. See our suggested list of essentials.
The subject of tips is viewed differently in various cultures worldwide. The following is suggested merely as a guideline for those who would like guidance and is by no means a minimum or maximum. Tipping is, by definition, a voluntary gesture, and our staff is all well paid and do not depend on tips for their livelihood.
Visas are required by the government of Tanzania for most nationalities. Please find all the information you need here.
Tanzania enjoys year-round warm weather. However, with a range of altitudes, seasonal rainfall and temperatures vary between regions. The northern Tanzanian Safari circuit is typically warm and dry but surprisingly cool at higher altitudes. The short rains fall in October-November and the long rains during April and May. The green season between late November and March might experience some rainfall from time to time. With altitudes ranging from 1950 to 2100 meters above sea level, average daytime temperatures are very comfortable and vary from 21° to 32°C, with a moderate 10° to 16°C at night. Rain is no hindrance for a safari, and some of the best wildlife viewing occurs due to and during this period of the year.
All of our camps are equipped with multi-plugs and USB sockets. In all camps, except Esirai, charging is available in the tented chalet and the lounge and dining tent. In Esirai, charging stations are provided in library tent.
Esirai is a very light-footprint mobile tented camp designed following tried-and-tested classic principles. Since its inception, a balance between comfort and sustainability has been at the core of our camp. The entire camp packs into a single pickup truck, moving from north to south Serengeti following the migration. Key eco-friendly features include: -Solar Power: The camp is fully solar-powered, with DC lighting and each tent producing its own independent power. The library tent also has a solar charging station, and the fridges and freezers are solar-powered Water Conservation: The camp does not have running water. However, each tent has an ensuite shower with heated bathing water, a basin on the veranda filled with heated water in the evening, and a tap and basin inside the tent for washing your face and brushing your teeth. -Eco-Friendly Toilets: The toilets are dry pit latrines”flushed” with sand. This is the most eco-friendly type of toilet, helping us minimizs pollutants in the precious Serengeti ecosystem. Esirai offers super attentive service and great food, making it the perfect eco camp for a comfortable and sustainable safari experience.
Fly camping is an overnight experience that truly immerses adventurers in the sounds of the African savannah at night and provides the perfect opportunity to appreciate the big African skies. The campfire is the focal point of the fly camp where we eat our meals and socialise. This may be a wild adventure but back-to-basics camping does not mean a lack of comfort – drift off to sleep comfortably as you are hugged by soft duvets and down pillows; and dining is generous, wholesome and served with a cold beer or a cool glass of wine. This experience will take us deep into the wilderness for a night or two, during which we conduct most of our activities on foot, allowing us to be in the bush rather than merely observing it.
All our camps offer free WiFi, except for Esirai. In the camps, WiFi is available at the mess tent. Bush WiFi is only sometimes reliable; it’s good enough to write home and let everyone know you are okay, but not sufficient for uploading videos or streaming events. Esirai does not have WiFi, but the camp manager is in contact with the main office and can pass a message to you in an emergency.
Mobile phone reception coverage is available in some regions of northern Tanzania, and if you have roaming, you can use it in some parts of the safari, but not consistently. Arusha is the only location where all networks have coverage. In the other camps, WiFi serves as a backup if your network doesn’t have coverage. All the major networks have good coverage around the parks.
During the safari, you might experience a few types of vehicles. The activity and transfer vehicle in the safari camps and lodges is an open safari Land Cruiser, with an awning to provide shade from the elements. Each vehicle is equipped with a fridge filled with cold drinks and a picnic basket with snacks and hot drinks. Sometimes, when transferring from the international airport to camp or doing long road transfers, a transfer vehicle can be used instead of the open safari vehicle. These transfer vehicles are more comfortable for high-speed road transfers. In such cases, we use an air-conditioned minivan or a closed safari Land Cruiser.
From sleeping under a star-studded sky in a tree nest or a remote fly camp to floating in a hot air balloon over the vast migrating herds and even possibly coming eye to eye with a Lion, you will return home with stories and memories that will last a lifetime.
